Physical Education Reflective Statement
Physical Education instructors have adopted the frameworks in order to raise the bar for student achievement in physical education. The framework’s purpose is to provide guidance for instructors to promote effective assessment practices as well as high-quality instruction. They also help establish a supportive and safe environment, support for the instructor, and program development. The frameworks are a form of resource that can be used to develop a high-quality physical education program. The framework is not a manual, but it is a provided to help and guide instructors to transform physical education into a an exciting and effective instructional program, in which students will be prepared for lifelong commitment to physical activity, their health, and well-being.
The physical education courses I have taught me these physical education skills have been Kin 425: Physical Education in the Elementary School, and PE-I: Yoga. In Kin 425 I learned to plan an age appropriate lesson on tennis, by choosing the proper materials such as; racket, tennis balls, stretches, handling techniques, and as well how to properly manage the room for the entire class. In PE-I I learned how to properly perform yoga poses that will help various parts of the body, from your toes all the way to my head. I also learn to keep my breathing in control as these yoga poses were performed. Some poses were very challenging, but I learned other ways that would be altered in order to perform any pose.
The artifact I chose is my portfolio of activities that we put together in Kin 425. The reason I chose this portfolio because it actually helped me see Physical Education in a different way. This portfolio made me see that physical education it is not just about playing volleyball, running the mile, pushups, football, soccer, tennis, among other sports, but also the importance of stretching, eating properly, creating a safe and exciting environment. An instructor should bring motivation and excitement into any activity, for me, was yoga, which is why many of my activities involved yoga. The portfolio of activities should guide me to properly choose activities that are both challenging, and fun for students, which will encourage students to stay properly fit.
